Art May-July 2019

In our previous blog, I mentioned how well members liked the introduction of using a computer to explore different forms of art. Designing their own pictures and choosing what colours they like, and then be able to print out their finished pictures.
This idea has been very well accepted, and will give them the opportunity to expand their technology skills.
As Uniquely Me & U are continually moving forward and finding different ways to encourage members. Another idea was introduced to the group.
In our Music Express group, using the camera and screen has had such positive outcomes, that we decided to try using it in our art group. See photos 2793, 2794. A member who is a little unsure at first, but becomes more confident. Photos 2806, 2809. Click photos to enlarge
Turning the camera round and encouraging members to hold up their pictures to the camera, so they can see themselves on the screen. That they relate to as a ‘television’. Photos 2754, 2764, 2767, 2795, 2796, 2797, 2798, 2799, 2803, 2809.
This is helping them to look up and make eye contact with themselves. This issue can be difficult for people with autism/learning disabilities, and needs to be encouraged as much as possible.
As we continue to work on eyes and faces in art, this new idea will also help them to gain confidence. Taking another step further, is encouraging them to talk about their art while looking at themselves on the ‘television’, which will build up their confidence and improve their communication skills. See photos 2800, 2802, 2804, 2806.
The introduction of the camera and screen was a very successful idea. It is wonderful to see the positive outcomes it had. Developing their skills in different ways, will help members to interact more with each other. When we do our next art display for the community, they will be able to talk more about their art to other people.
Our member who had his birthday party coming up in July, did some pictures for his songs that he wanted to put on our display board. See photos 2556, 2557, 2563, Disco Inferno. He also, did some others for his party. Photos 2616, 2617, 2618.
The idea of connecting pictures to their songs, is helping them very much. They are thinking of what they want to draw that they can connect to their songs. Which is showing progression in their decision making.
Over the weeks our art group have been creating a variety of art, and exploring different subjects, as their confidence grows. Bringing out their individual talents. Photos 2558, 2560, 2564, 2621, 2622, 2657, 2680, 2681, 2703, 2704, 2706, 2716, 2717, 2832, 2833, 2919, 2920, 2921, 2922.
Our member who likes wood carving, is going to paint a leaf he made, to give as a present to our guest singer who was coming to his birthday party. Photos 2712, 2713, he is showing he needs to use different paints for this wood, as he had put on an oil coating first, and would have to use oil paints. Which he found out does take a lot longer to dry. This is helping to understand how different paints are needed on particular surfaces.
This year our group have decided to create another themed project. Last year for the art Show they did a wonderful circus theme.
They worked as a team on the parts each one liked doing. Animals, a circus train, and a big circus tent.
This year they are going to do their favourite topics from around the world. Trains, a variety of birds from different countries and Disney characters and parks in America.
This is showing the progress they are making in their choices and decision making, and sharing ideas for the project.
They are looking at maps of the world. Finding the Countries they are interested in, and interacting as they discuss the information.
Being part of Uniquely Me & U Is giving them the opportunity to develop their skills and talents at their own pace.
We are going to start an extra session on one Sunday each month starting September 22nd 2019. Time 9.30am till 11.30am.
